about

A song from the point of view of a person who feels stuck in a place or situation. The declaration of a fed-up character "leaving this town" has become such an abundantly used theme in contemporary film and TV, that it has become the "Modern Cliché".

The composition as a whole is sort-of a cliché. From the overly-happy chord changes, to the obligatory guitar solo. In fact, the last three lines in the chorus - "the games that we play", "turn the page", and "at the end of the day" are by themselves all cliché statements.

lyrics

Verse 1
It’s 6-o’clock and the light is creeping in
Push the blankets to see
This place is cold and I don’t mind sleeping but
I got some places to be

Verse 2
Travel miles in dark and frozen lines,
Hang my coat on the door
Silence, patience, and claims on broken minds,
Just don’t know what it’s for

Pre-Chorus
Yeah, I’m leaving
Well I’m leaving this town
Doesn’t matter what you say
Leave behind what’s been pulling me down
Send me on way way

<<Chorus>>
You fought it, you bought it
Your climbing your way in to a cage of modern cliche
You tried it, you hide it
The games that we play can turn the page
At the end of the day

Verse 3
She’s sleeping late cuz the time is her disguise
Trading silence for shame
Coffee Xnanx and wine won’t clear her eyes
Someone here is to blame

Pre-Chorus
Yeah, she means it
Well she’s leaving this town
Doesn’t matter what you say
So much for your sneaking around
She was never meant to stay

<<Chorus>> X2

~Solo~

Verse 4
We’re pushing forward but falling more behind
From where we think we should go
We had a calling, but now we’ve come to find
We haven’t started the show

Pre-Chorus
So we mean it
Yeah, we’re leaving this town
Doesn’t matter what you say
All for the leaps and bounds
Send us on our way
